WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A RESCUED DOG?

In Manitoba's First Nations, the dog population is out of control. Packs of feral dogs roam the community, at risk for illness, starvation or worse. With limited or no access to basic veterinary services such as spays and neuters, the dogs continue to breed and more dogs are born into a life of peril. Some of these dog populations have reached a critical point. Starving packs of feral dogs have become a threat to vulnerable members of the community, causing some groups to turn to dog culls to keep the population down. There must be a better way.

K9 Advocates Manitoba is working with these communities to improve the welfare of dogs and dog owners in these places. Access to food, veterinary care, and foster or adoptive homes are backbone of K9 Advocates Manitoba's work in our province. "Before the Shelter" is a web series that will take you into the lives of these dogs before they find their adoptive homes. Through the harsh weather, the threat of gunfire and malnutrition, life is dangerous before the shelter.
